Switch carriers and keep your number (MNP)
What you need
- Identity verification document
- MNP reservation number
- *Not required if you're using MNP One-Stop.
- Rakuten member user ID and password
- *The information on your ID documents must match your Rakuten member information
- Credit card/bank account information
*If the subscriber and user are different people, a power of attorney is required when switching at Rakuten Mobile shop. Click here for details.
How to transfer
There are two methods to transfer from another carrier (MNP) while keeping your phone number.
Using MNP One-Stop Using MNP reservation number
Procedures With MNP One-Stop
If you transfer from an MNP One-Stop eligible mobile carrier, you don't need to get an MNP reservation number from your current carrier.
If you've already obtained an MNP reservation number, please check the "Procedures with MNP reservation number".
MNP One-Stop eligible carriers (service)
If you're switching from one of our eligible carriers (services), you can use the MNP One-Stop procedure*. However, if you're coming from a carrier not on our list, you'll need to follow the standard MNP reservation number procedure.
*If you've already obtained an MNP reservation number, please use it for your transfer process, even if your current carrier supports the MNP One-Stop procedure. Click here for details.
Even if you're transferring from an MNP One-Stop eligible carrier, always obtain an MNP reservation number before visiting our shop to apply.
Application Process

1. Apply for Rakuten Mobile
Visit the "Apply for Rakuten Mobile" page and enter your subscriber information.
When prompted, choose "Switch from another company (MNP)".
Continue through the application process.
You'll receive a confirmation email upon completion.
*No need to obtain an MNP reservation number.
Important Notes
The name on your current mobile contract must match the name on your new Rakuten Mobile contract.
If the names differ, update your current mobile phone contract before applying to Rakuten Mobile.

2. Apply for Mobile Number Portability (MNP)
Go to "Application History" in "my Rakuten Mobile" and tap "Apply for Mobile Number Portability (MNP)" for your relevant application.
Choose your current mobile phone company. You'll be redirected to that company's website.
In the event you don't know your ID/password, check the "FAQs about ID/Password for Mobile Phone Company You Are Transferring From" page.
If you still can't log in, obtain an MNP reservation number and apply for MNP separately.*If you already have an MNP reservation number, you cannot use the MNP One-Stop application. Instead, refer to the "Procedures using an MNP reservation number".

3. Complete the MNP Activation Procedure
After completing the MNP One-Stop Application, a "Start MNP Transfer-in" button will appear in your "Application History".
Review the provided notes before proceeding with the MNP transfer.
Completion times vary based on when the MNP activation request is received.
Request Time Completion Time 9:00~21:00 Same day 21:01~8:59 the next day After 9:00 the next day - *If you submit your application immediately after receiving your product or close to 9:00 PM, same-day activation may not be possible. In such cases, activation might be delayed until the next day.
Procedures With MNP Reservation Number
The MNP reservation number system allows you to transfer your phone number from your current provider to a new one.
This process involves obtaining a reservation number from your current provider and presenting it to your new provider.
Application Process

1. Obtain an MNP Reservation Number From Your Current Carrier
Contact your current mobile carrier via their shop, call center, or website and request an MNP number.
How to get an MNP number for each company
Important Notes
- *The name on your current mobile contract must match the name on your new Rakuten Mobile contract. If the names differ, update your current mobile phone contract before applying to Rakuten Mobile.
- *When applying, you'll need to provide the validity period of the MNP reservation number.Take note of this when obtaining your number.
- *For online applications, your MNP reservation number must have at least 7 days of validity remaining. For in-store applications at a Rakuten Mobile shop, you can apply as long as your MNP number is still valid.

2. Apply for Rakuten Mobile
Visit the "Apply for Rakuten Mobile" page and enter your subscriber information.
When prompted, choose "Switch from another company (MNP)".
Continue through the application process.
You'll receive a confirmation email upon completion.
*No need to obtain an MNP reservation number.

3. Apply for Mobile Number Portability (MNP)
Go to "Application History" in "my Rakuten Mobile" and tap "Apply for Mobile Number Portability (MNP)" for your relevant application.

4. Choose "I have an existing MNP reservation number, or My current provider isn't listed"
Review the displayed notes, then enter your MNP reservation number details.
*If you've already obtained an MNP reservation number, skip selecting a mobile carrier (service).

5. Complete the MNP Activation Procedure
After completing the MNP One-Stop Application, a "Start MNP Transfer-in" button will appear in your "Application History".
Review the provided notes before proceeding with the MNP transfer.
