Streamlined Application Process for eSIM

  1. STEP1Check eSIM Compatibility

    Verify if your device is compatible with Rakuten Mobile's eSIM (Rakuten Line).

    *Functionality is not guaranteed for devices not listed as compatible with Rakuten Mobile. Use at your own discretion.

    Confirm to Unlock Your Device

    If your device was contracted with another mobile carrier (e.g., NTT DoCoMo, au, SoftBank), it may be SIM-locked, restricting usage to that carrier only. Contact your current mobile operator to check if your device is SIM-locked. If unlocking is not required, proceed to the next step.

  2. STEP2Apply Using AI Quick Identity Verification (eKYC)

    Apply for the Rakuten SAIKYO Plan with eSIM via the web application or "my Rakuten Mobile" (app/web). Select "AI Quick Identity Verification (eKYC)" during the Identity Confirmation step. Take photos of your identification documents (Residence card/Special permanent resident certificate) and your face. Fill in the required information to complete your application.

    *If you don't have a residence card or special permanent resident certificate, you can use other identification methods. Check the Identity verification documents page for more information.

    *Supported OS/Browsers for eKYC: Android OS 7.1+ (latest Google Chrome) or latest iOS version (latest Safari)
    App Requirements: Android OS 5+ or iOS 10+

  3. STEP3Activate eSIM and Start Using the Device

    After applying for an eSIM using an eSIM-compatible device, eKYC identity verification is completed within 3 minutes*. Activate your eSIM directly through “my Rakuten Mobile” app. Complete the initial setup and start using the device.

    *If your device is compatible with Rakuten Mobile but not SIM-free, you'll need to unlock your device before applying for eKYC via the app.
