If you have an eSIM-compatible device that works with Rakuten Mobile, you can activate your eSIM in just a few simple steps using “my Rakuten Mobile” app. Once completed, you can start using your device right away.
*2 Applicable when applying via the app using Simple Mobile ID Verification on a Rakuten Mobile-compatible eSIM device. If the device is not SIM-unlocked, SIM unlocking is required. Please note that eSIM-compatible devices other than smartphones do not support activation via my Rakuten Mobile, please refer to the Initial Setup page for activation instructions. If you selected AI Quick Identity Verification (eKYC) on or before March 30, 2026, setup can be completed using the same steps.

Streamlined Application Process for eSIM
STEP1Check eSIM Compatibility
Verify if your device is compatible with Rakuten Mobile's eSIM (Rakuten Line).
*Functionality is not guaranteed for devices not listed as compatible with Rakuten Mobile. Use at your own discretion.
Confirm to Unlock Your Device
If your device was contracted with another mobile carrier (e.g., NTT DoCoMo, au, SoftBank), it may be SIM-locked, restricting usage to that carrier only. Contact your current mobile operator to check if your device is SIM-locked. If unlocking is not required, proceed to the next step.
STEP2Apply for Rakuten Mobile using "Simple Mobile ID Verification"
Please apply for Rakuten Mobile by selecting "eSIM" as your SIM type and "Simple Mobile ID Verification" as your identity verification method. For details on required documents and procedures, please refer to the information below. Once you have completed the process and entered the required information, your application will be complete.
*If you don't have the required documents, you can use other identification methods. Check the Identity verification documents page for more information.
STEP3Activate eSIM and Start Using the Device
After applying for eSIM on a compatible device using Simple Mobile ID Verification, identity verification screening is completed in as little as 3 minutes*, and you can proceed with activation directly in "my Rakuten Mobile" app. Once activated, complete the initial setup to start using the service.
